Traditional Use
Keratin was first isolated from animal hair and nails in the 19th century. Modern keratin cosmetics were developed in the 1960s-70s as hair strengthening and conditioning treatments, derived from hydrolyzed keratin proteins found naturally in the outer layer of skin and hair.
