NATRUE offers a three-tier certification: Natural Cosmetics, Natural Cosmetics with Organic Portion, and Organic Cosmetics. Products are evaluated against a strict positive list of permitted natural, near-natural (minimally processed), and nature-identical ingredients. Synthetic fragrances, dyes, petroleum derivatives, silicones, and GMOs are prohibited at all levels. Unlike percentage-based standards, NATRUE defines maximum thresholds for each product category (e.g., shampoo, cream, lipstick).

The Other Side
NATRUE is respected for its rigorous, category-specific approach and the fact that it requires the entire brand (not just individual products) to commit to natural formulation. Critics note that NATRUE is less well-known outside Europe than COSMOS/ECOCERT, limiting its consumer recognition value in the US market. Some argue its positive-list approach can be slow to adapt to innovative new natural ingredients.
