In a 1969 clinical study, 26 patients with nocturnal leg cramps and restless legs syndrome took vitamin E (100 IU three times daily). Nearly all experienced prompt relief from their symptoms. One patient also saw improvement in severe nighttime rectal cramps.
Researchers observed vitamin E's effects on patients who were being treated for skin conditions. They noticed leg cramp relief as an incidental finding and documented the results.
