This review analyzed research from 2005-2022 on madecassoside and asiaticoside, two active compounds from Centella asiatica (cica). The evidence shows these ingredients have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and wound-healing properties—plus potential benefits for collagen production, skin hydration, and scar appearance. That said, most of the strong claims (neuroprotective, anti-tumor) come from lab and animal studies, not human skin trials.
This wasn't an original experiment. Instead, researchers reviewed and summarized existing published studies on these two cica compounds to map out what's been tested and what the results suggest.
