Findings

In a 12-month study, a gel combining hydroxypinacolone retinoate and encapsulated retinol prevented acne relapse in 85% of patients who'd completed oral isotretinoin treatment. Only 6 out of 39 patients experienced acne returning, and no one reported side effects.

Methodology

Researchers treated 40 people with moderate acne using oral isotretinoin until their skin cleared, then switched them to daily application of the test gel for a full year to see if acne would come back.
