In a 4-week trial, piroctone olamine combined with salicylic acid significantly reduced dandruff (55% improvement), itching (53% improvement), and scalp redness in 20 people with moderate to severe seborrheic dermatitis. After 16 weeks of maintenance treatment, 90% of participants saw their condition improve to mild, with only 2 experiencing temporary recurrence.
20 patients with moderate to severe scalp seborrheic dermatitis used a combination pre-gel and cleansing lotion for 4 weeks, then continued with the cleansing lotion alone for 12 weeks. Doctors measured dandruff, itching, redness, and greasiness on a scale at each visit.
