This review found that the cosmetic industry is moving away from animal testing (banned in the EU since 2013) toward alternative methods like computer modeling, lab-grown skin samples, and AI to evaluate ingredient safety. However, a major gap remains: we still don't have clear answers about whether nanoparticles in cosmetics are actually safe, despite growing concern about them.
Researchers reviewed existing scientific literature on how cosmetic safety is assessed, including traditional animal testing methods, newer lab alternatives, and emerging technologies like AI and genetic analysis (omics).
