In a 12-week trial, retinyl retinoate (a gentler retinoid hybrid) reduced wrinkle depth and roughness 22% more effectively than standard retinol, with visible improvements showing up in as little as 4 weeks. The ingredient was designed to be less irritating and more stable than traditional retinoids, addressing two major complaints about retinol.
This was a small, controlled study with 11 Korean women over 30 with crow's feet. Researchers applied either 0.06% retinyl retinoate or 0.075% retinol cream for 12 weeks and measured wrinkle depth, skin texture, and dermal changes using multiple imaging tools.
