Findings

Researchers created a gel containing tamanu oil and levocetirizine (an antihistamine) to treat atopic dermatitis. In tests on animals with induced eczema, the gel reduced scratching and redness better than a standard gel formulation, with skin improvements confirmed through tissue samples.

Methodology

Scientists optimized a tamanu oil-based formula using statistical design methods, then mixed it into a gel with sericin (a silk protein). They tested the final product on animals with chemically-induced dermatitis and examined skin tissue under a microscope.
