Ximenia oil is rich in oleic acid (32%) and other long-chain fatty acids that help it absorb into skin as a thin film. Lab tests showed it blocks some UV light (200-300 nm range) and was non-toxic to human skin cells at tested concentrations, supporting its traditional use for hydration and sun protection.
Researchers analyzed three samples of ximenia oil—one sold locally in Angola and two extracted in the lab—testing their chemical composition, physical properties, UV blocking ability, and safety on human skin cells.
