Findings

Coconut oil has solid evidence for treating atopic dermatitis (eczema) when applied to skin and may help prevent hair damage from styling and sun exposure. However, most other health claims—weight loss, heart health, brain function—don't have enough human studies to back them up yet. Virgin coconut oil contains more vitamin E and polyphenols than refined versions, but the research on coconut oil specifically can't be directly applied from studies on isolated medium-chain fatty acids.
