Findings

Lab tests show that some beauty ingredients (phthalates, parabens, UV filters, musks, antimicrobials) can interact with hormones at high doses—but human evidence is basically missing. Phthalates caused hormone problems in male rats at extreme doses, but the amounts in personal care products are considered safe and haven't been linked to the same effects in people. No credible evidence connects any of these ingredients to breast cancer or endocrine problems in humans.

Methodology

This was a literature review that examined both lab studies and human research on five common beauty product ingredients to see if they disrupt hormones. The authors assessed whether findings in animals translated to real-world risk for people using these products.
