Sea buckthorn oil suppositories improved vaginal tissue health and the quality of colposcopy images in postmenopausal women when used for 2 weeks before the procedure. Results were comparable to prescription estrogen ointment, with both treatments significantly outperforming no pretreatment in reducing bleeding and improving visualization.
Researchers randomly assigned 368 postmenopausal women undergoing colposcopy into three groups: untreated controls, sea buckthorn oil users, and estrogen ointment users. The oil and ointment groups were treated for 2 weeks before the procedure, then colposcopy results and side effects were compared across all groups.
